Twitch’s Bits and Subs are Now Available for Everyone

Dan Clancy, Twitch’s current CEO, released an open letter on Feb 27, 2025, which mentioned a few things about the roadmap the purple platform will follow this year.

The same day, Twitch's official Twitter account shared the letter.

A few things were mentioned in the letter:

  • A greater focus on creating more features for collaboration between creators
  • More clipping, editing, and content sharing tools
  • And ways for facilitating sponsorships.

However, there is one thing that has streamers both excited and annoyed and that is that Twitch’s monetization features (bits and subscriptions) will be available to most streamers from day one.

This means that new streamers won’t have to do affiliate pushes to be able to make an income from their livestreams.

In the letter, Clancy mentioned:

“We want you to be able to take advantage of our monetization tools, whether you’re just getting your community started, or have been on Twitch for a while.”

“In 2025, we’re excited to open up monetization tools-subscriptions and bits-to most streamers, from day one. This will allow creators, regardless of their status, to grow their communities and start building earnings through direct patronage.”

“We’re also introducing an option, which will allow all streamers to use their earnings on purchases within Twitch.”

As great as this sounds for new Twitch streamers, some seasoned creators don’t like that something they had to work for is now been given away, and you can find comments showing their displeasure in the official announcement on Twitter.
