The Next Big Marvel Game Might Come This Christmas

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is the latest Marvel Superhero game currently in development by Skydance New Media and published by Plaion.

Amy Hennig, the creator and director of Uncharted (one of Naughty Dog's most iconic videogame series), is now leading Skydance and the direction of Marvel 1943.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Amy Hennig said that her team is aiming to show us a new story portraying a young Steve Rogers who's still trying to find his feet during the events of WWII in the Marvel Universe.

"It led us to do a bunch of interesting things, one of which was to not only tell a story with a young Steve Rogers who's still trying to find his feet, as opposed to the more seasoned guy that we've seen in a lot of the films. It also let us introduce a new Black Panther of 1943."

Besides a new view of Captain America, it was also confirmed that this Black Panther is not T'Challa but his grandfather Azzuri, so we will be presented to a completely new character in a setting that has conflict to spare.

Also, the game will have 4 playable heroes:

  1. Captain America - the American hero, by Drew Moerlein
  2. Black Panther - Wakanda's king and guardian, by Khary Payton
  3. Gabriel Jones - a Howling Commando in the U.S. military, by Marque Richardson
  4. Nanali - a Wakandan spy who's skilled in infiltration, by Megalyn Echikunwoke

You can see the trailer here:

The kingdom of Wakanda will also be a prominent setting in Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. Hennig even released a concept art showing the jungles back in December 2024.

There isn't an official confirmation of the release date, but Khary Payton layed the possibility that it might come out on Christmas of this year.

“We’re still working. We’re planning on 2025. We’re thinking like a Christmas situation, but I’m so excited.”

It is clear from the trailer that the enemies will be Hydra, and it hinted that there is another supersoldier besides Captain America and Black Panther, which raises the question.

Who is the last one?

We will have to wait until Skydance releases more information about it for us to know, but there is a chance it might be the Winter Soldier since he is the iconic enemy Hydra sends to fight the Captain.

My Thoughts

I believe this is the first time we get a Marvel game set in WWII so there is a lot of potential here for a great story and given the focus Amy Hennig and her team want to give to Captain America and Black Panther they can build a fresh new angle we haven't seen yet.

Also, since Hennig is one of the people responsible for crafting the amazing story of Uncharted 1, 2, and 3, so I have high hopes for this game and I'm excited to play it when it releases.

However, as excited as I am, it is still too soon to say that it will be good. I mean it's not even out yet.

So, I'll hold my horses until its finally out while hoping for the best.

That's all for today.
